Hi everyone and welcome to the September Newsletter! Exciting times ahead for our co-op!
Space:
First of all, thank you to all those who reached out to give us a hand setting up. We will probably start with the painting no later than mid September. In the meantime, we will do a cleaning session on Saturday the 7th. We will be there approximatively from 10 am to 6 pm, if people want just to show up!

Open Call:
Another reminder of our open call for exhibiting in our space during the Ballina Fringe Festival. We'd really like to encourage all members to take part in the showcase, even if it's just a single piece or song or recital. This night is for us, come on people!
TheNCF Official Launch Showcase / Opening Event for Ballina Fringe Festival 2024 Hosted by theNCF - Friday 4th October 2024 from 8pm - late.
A Showcase of theNCF Arts Collective to celebrate our new premises and introduce ourselves to the neighbourhood!
The proposed run of events on the night will be:
* Throughout the event a visual art exhibition will adorn the walls of the space with a possibility of installation spaces.
* Live acoustic type music sets
* Performances
* Dj sets
TheNCF is such a diverse group of creatives we want everyone to get involved if possible so we’re urging all artists of all mediums to submit work to our open call.
We will try to exhibit/showcase 1-2 works for each member. We ask that everyone applying includes the following information with their submission:
Visual Art:
- 1-3 images of each work submitted
- title of work
- mediums used
- dimensions of work
- price of work (if for sale - there will be no commission charged on sold artworks)
- All art must be in hanging condition (ready to hang).
Music: Open to Acoustic type performances (10-15min sets)
- Submit a sample
- Set length/duration
- title/s of work
- Instruments involved
- Equipment involved
DJ sets (for later in the night)
- Submit a sample
- Set length/duration
- Equipment involved
Performance/ Spoken Word: we can only accommodate 10-15min performances.

Deadline for submitting work to the open call is Sunday 8th of Sept 2024.
Artworks must be delivered to theNCF premises prior to the event - we will set delivery dates in mid September.

Events
CULTURE NIGHT is fast approaching and theNCF is following up last years Donal Dineen set with another top-notch DJ night. We'd love for as many theNCF members as possible to drop in for a drink and a catch up - it's been too long! Details below.
THENCF PRESENTS HEWAN @ the Ballina Arts Center.
Hewan is a Dublin based Ethiopian Dj who is making a scene in different Irish festivals and music venues. She is vinyl collector with special interest in Ethiopian modern and trad music from 60s/70s and all African grooves from the same era. Her selections cover afro-funk, afro-beat, high-life, rare finds of all genres of music from Africa.
Beside her monthly radio show on Dublin digital radio, Hewan has been part of Donal Dineen’s backstory guest Djs and played on ATN, Body &Soul, Cork Jazz festivals and different venues in Dublin and across the counties. Also supported and played with local and international Djs and artists like Hailu Mergia and Def Nettle.
Friday 20th of September, kick-off at 9 pm until midnight in the mezzanine/bar, make sure you come and support!

Christina has finally a new date for her book launch! It will take place in Pangur Bán on Friday the 13th of September. See poster attached below:
Also on Friday the 13th of September our friends from the Ballina Fringe Festival will hold a pub quiz in Cot and Cobble to raise funds! There are a couple of us booking a table, it would be cool if more people would join TheNCF delegation! Let is know if you want to join! See poster below:
Don't miss Seckou Keita at the Ballina Arts Center on the on September 25th at 8pm! Keita is a renowned Kora virtuoso who stands as a luminary amongst African traditional musicians.
Hailing from Southern Senegal, his journey from a gifted child to a globally recognised musician has been nothing short of remarkable.Dubbed as “the Hendrix of the Kora” Seckou’s innovative approach and exceptional skill constantly pushes the boundaries of what the instrument can achieve.
