TheNCF Monthly Newsletter
Hello and welcome to an August newsletter full of excitement 😉.
A quick note that we had to switch to newsletter software (brevo) as the mailing list got too big to do it the old fashioned way. Brevo is fully GDRP compliant and hosted in the EU but if you're not happy, you'll find an unsubscribe link on this email.
First up, we have some excellent news for the community:
We are in the final stages with Mayo County Council regarding licensing a building. Barring last minute hitches we should be in this month. Thanks Bernie for dealing with the red tape etc. More news to come when things are finalised.
The Conncert is coming up on this Saturday the 3rd! It got nice write up here https://thethinair.net/2024/07/the-conncert-at-the-lodge-co-mayo/ Well done Conncert people. Ronan kindly donated theNCF funding he originally got for October Nights to support the Conncert, thanks Ronan.
Christina will launch her book Witch/Womb on the 9th of August in Pangur Bán. Susan Jane Mckenna will introduce the book and Christina will read a few poems. The book was kindly founded by the Arts Council. The event is free of charge.
Aibhainn Studio is taking part in a series of lovely workshops organised by the West Sligo Family Resource Center for kids and teenagers called Summer Art Series. Their workshop will welcome kids ages 10 to 14 and it will be held on the 13th and 14th of August. It's free.
Our community is getting bigger and we can't wait to see all the new faces! Make sure you pop in in Aibhann Studio in Enniscrone for theNCF meetup/BBQ the 17th of this month. There will be music, food and hopefully sun! More details to come.
Taragh and her pals are organising the annual Riverfest in Foxford on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of August. Lots of excitement to be expected! Check out their program https://www.facebook.com/Theriverfest
Ray is also hosting the next Pangur Bán Bookclub on Thursday the 29th of August at 6.30 pm. The book discussed this month will be Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors.
We are looking for ideas/submissions with regards to this years Ballina Fringe Festival official opening night @ theNCF Collective event - all welcome to exhibit / participate. It will take place on October the 4th.
Also, Michael asked us to pass on the details of an open call for the Ballina Fringe Festival Art Project which is now in its sixth year and has transformed the visual landscape of Ballina town. The projects to date are substantial and visually dynamic. This year's collaboration theme is ‘Pure Ballina – United by Place’ and will look at the various communities within the town and what unites them.
The projects will involve at least six weeks contact time and be significant
in time and scale. Maximum budget is €8,000 and deadline for applications is on the 16th of August. Reach out to michael@ballinafringefestival.ie for more info.
We again got funding for Culture Night on September 20th. This year we've booked Hewan Mulugeta aka Ethiogrooves to DJ for the night. You can check her out here: https://www.mixcloud.com/korerima/. The event will take place in the Ballina Arts Center. Thanks Paul for offering the space, Ronan for suggesting Hewan and Serena for setting this up.
