Community Night Space

Our first project is to set up a night space for socializing in Ballina. This would provide an community based, not-for-profit alternative to commercial nightclubs and late bars. The project can be considered to broadly fall within the purview of the recent government initiative to improve Irish nightlife in general. The main NCF proposal has more details on this.

Objectives

  • Art based nightspot for post-pub socializing.
  • Open-minded, tolerant, safe, welcoming environment for all.
  • Dedicated venue for artists visiting North Mayo / West Sligo.

Activities

The main purpose of the space is to facilitate socializing at night but as a member of THENCF any activity that has an arts and social element will be considered.

Location

Mayo County Council have kindly provided us with a home in Ballina at no 5 Pearse St, F26 C925.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers with practical or artistic skills (or both) to help us fix up and decorate the venue. All ideas considered, no budget too low.

Donations

We are a member of the Mayo PPN but we welcome additional donations of any kind to support the project. Stuff we need:

  • money
  • furniture
  • musical equipment
  • art
  • diy tools and supplies
  • trinkets, paraphernalia, curiosities, oddities, kitsch, bobs, bits.

We also need practical help with the build out, including (possibly):

  • building a stage / curtain
  • clearing the jungle out the back and the path to the back door
  • securing the terrace with fencing
  • stage lighting
  • mens toilet
  • lots of other stuff...
